ABOUT COMSAT

We help commercial and government organizations harness the power of secure, reliable satellite communications.

OUR HISTORY

COMSAT® was established by the Communications Satellite Act of 1962 and incorporated as a publicly traded company in 1963, with the aim of developing a federally funded commercial, international satellite communication system.

A recognised pioneer, we've been instrumental in shaping industry innovation and standards from the beginning. We were a founding member of Intelsat in 1964 and SBS in 1975, also forming part of the initial operating system for INMARSAT in 1982.

Then and now, our goal has always been to provide world-class satellite communication services. We combine decades of experience with a culture of innovation to offer customers a diverse range of connectivity solutions they can trust.

OUR PRESENT

In 2023, our COMSAT teleports joined the Goonhilly Group, founded by UK-based satellite and space communications provider, Goonhilly Earth Station Ltd. Together, the group helps commercial and government organisations around the world to communicate securely and reliably with their assets in space.

The move brings together over 120 years of combined industry experience, offering customers on both sides of the Atlantic increased coverage and access to the expertise for which both organisations are renowned.

The acquisition of our US teleports into the Goonhilly Group portfolio will also see Goonhilly's lunar and deep-space network 'go global' - making our sites key assets in the lunar economy of tomorrow.
