ABOUT COMSAT

We help commercial and government organizations harness the power of secure, reliable satellite communications.

OUR HISTORY

COMSAT® was established by the Communications Satellite Act of 1962 and incorporated as a publicly traded company in 1963, with the aim of developing a federally funded commercial, international satellite communication system.

A recognised pioneer, we've been instrumental in shaping industry innovation and standards from the beginning. We were a founding member of Intelsat in 1964 and SBS in 1975, also forming part of the initial operating system for INMARSAT in 1982.

Then and now, our goal has always been to provide world-class satellite communication services. We combine decades of experience with a culture of innovation to offer customers a diverse range of connectivity solutions they can trust.

OUR PRESENT

In 2023, COMSAT Southbury and Santa Paula joined the Goonhilly Group, founded by UK-based satellite and space communications provider, Goonhilly Earth Station Ltd., bringing together over 120 years of pioneering satellite communications experience. Then, in 2026, both companies were acquired by space infrastructure company, Intuitive Machines.

Together, as part of Intuitive Machines, Goonhilly and COMSAT continue to deliver advanced, resilient Earth‑to‑space communications services to commercial and government organizations around the world via secure teleports on the US East and West coast, and in the UK.
